Subtle signs that divorce may be coming

Feb 14, 2020 | Family Law

The end of a marriage usually has signs before it arrives. In some cases, the signs are obvious, and no one is surprised when the marriage ends. In other cases, the signs are very subtle, and you may overlook them entirely until you get divorced and everything suddenly clicks into place.

Let’s take a look at some of those more subtle signs. If you’re seen them in your marriage, it may be time to start planning ahead for a divorce.

1. You talk to other people first

Good news at work? Bad news from a family member? Your spouse used to be the first person you called, texted or talked to in person. Now you turn to friends or other family members.

2. You don’t talk about your feelings

You may talk every day, but it’s little more than small talk. You discuss your day, the weather, your work. When is the last time that you had a real, deep conversation?

3. You don’t communicate well when there’s a problem

Instead of talking about issues, you just ignore them. You wait for things to blow over. You hope that your issues fade. You do not know how to bring up hard subjects or how to work through them, so you do not even try.

Your options

These are just a few signs. Every divorce case looks different. The key isn’t to memorize the signs, but to understand what it looks like in general when a marriage is fraying. When you start to spot red flags in your marriage, it’s time to look into your legal options.
